In his Coast City apartment, Jordan was hounded by his landlord for overdue rent. New 52 Alliance with SinestroĪfter being stripped of his ring by the Corps, Hal returned home, resigned. With the help of his friends he ultimately broke free, but the incident remained one of Hal's few fears. However, following subsequent changes to the timeline, this was supplanted with an adventure resembling the team's Earth-1 and New Earth origin. In original New 52 Continuity, the Justice League formed following an invasion of Earth by Darkseid. One of their earliest foes was Starro the Conquerer. The heroes, inspired by their victory, formed a team not unlike the historical Justice Society of America or its lesser-known successor, the Justice Experience, christening it the Justice League. While the team's actual first meeting is debated, prime amongst the contenders was when the heroes who would eventually comprise the league fought off an attack by the alien Appellaxians, which resulted in them nearly being turned into trees before emerging victorious. Hal was among founding members of the Justice League. Īt various points Hal has fought against Evil Star, Black Hand and Hector Hammond. He attacked Sinestro and turned him in to the Corps, earning Sinestro's lifelong enmity. At some point, however, Hal discovered Sinestro had enslaved Korugar using his ring. Hal and Sinestro worked well together and became friends. On completion, he was assigned to Thaal Sinestro of Korugar. Hal accepted and was summoned for basic training to the Corps headquarters on the planet Oa. Sur wanted Hal to replace him in the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic police force that had safeguarded the universe for billions of years. He was abducted by a dying alien, Abin Sur. Years later, Hal had been kicked out of the military for assaulting an officer, and was reduced to an engineer giving planes tune-ups. Refusing to bow down to fear, he followed in his father's footsteps and became a military test pilot, despite being terrified every time he flew. Īs a child, Hal was traumatized by watching his father, a pilot, die in a plane crash. His father is Catholic, while his mother is Jewish. O'Neil continued to write during this period, penning a critically acclaimed revamp of The Question with artist Denys Cowan and co-creating the vigilante anti-hero Azrael.Hal was raised in a multi-religious household. During this period O'Neil oversaw a number of seminal storylines like the death of second Robin Jason Todd, Batman's defeat by Bane in Knightfall and the massive No Man's Land crossover. O'Neil also had a major impact on the comics industry as an editor, presiding over Frank Miller's legendary Daredevil series and later serving as group editor on the Batman line from 1986 to 2000.
